If you’ve seen the news or been on social media for the past few hours, then you already know France is in the midst of a cultural inferno. The iconic cathedral Notre Dame de Paris is burning, and we’re losing her and countless priceless works of art stored inside it as I write this. Having never gotten to experience the beauty and awe of this magnificent centuries-old monument beyond film, it breaks my heart.

We may not be able to put out the fires ourselves, but there is something we can do to salvage what we have.

For every $5 you contribute to the Friends of Note Dame de Paris restoration fund, I’m giving you an extra vote for the next movie review voting round in May (So $10 gives you two votes, $15 three, etc.) Anyone who gives $50 or more will get a written view of a film of their choice from the Shelf.

Also, considering what day this is, I should add that any gift you decide to give is tax deductible in the US.

If you decide to make a pledge, make sure you forward me a receipt as proof of your kind donation via upontheshelfshow@gmail.com. Please consider donating so future generations will be able to admire Notre Dame as it should be (and so Quasimodo won’t be homeless).

Merci.

(NOTE: You might have to reload the link to the fund a couple of times to get it to work.)
